Establishment

The GHD Foundation has established this scholarship to assist Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander undergraduate students to undertake a course leading to a degree at the University of Newcastle. Preference will be given to applicants who are studying a STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics-related) course.

An opportunity may be provided to the student to receive mentoring by a Young Professional from the organisation. Scholarship recipients may also be offered the opportunity of non-compulsory casual or holiday work.

Applicable to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, Indigenous, STEM, 1st year, first year, academic achievement.

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply for this scholarship, you will need to:

  • Be enrolled in your 1st year of any undergraduate program with the University of Newcastle.
  • Be enrolled in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics program (STEM).
  • Be enrolled full-time.
  • Have an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) or equivalent of 75 or higher.
  • Establish your Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identity and heritage with the university as outlined here.
  • Be an Australian citizen.
  • Not be the recipient of another University of Newcastle donor-funded or sponsored scholarship concurrently.

Required Documentation

Required documents will be listed on the ‘Your Documents’ page of your application. The application portal accepts PDF only. A maximum of 3 PDF smaller than 5 MB can be added per document type upload field.

  • A personal statement (approx. 1 A4 page) outlining your academic achievements, career aspirations in the relevant area of study, and how this scholarship would assist you. This statement will cover all scholarships you are submitting for.
  • The application will include a free text question asking you to outline your interest in associated future opportunities with this donor and/or Industry partner.

Benefit

The scholarship provides a total benefit of $15,000 providing ongoing eligibility for the term of the scholarship.

The scholarship will be paid $2,500 each semester after the relevant census dates (usually in April and September).


Selection

Selection is a competitive process and will be based on an assessment of the scholarship application and any required supporting documents, with reference to the eligibility criteria.
