As an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander prospective student, there are many ways for you to gain entry to University. You don’t need to have completed your HSC or have an ATAR. We have a number of pathways which take your life experience and your goals for University study into account.
Establishing your status as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander prospective student
If you wish to apply for these pathways, you’ll first need to complete your Establishing Status Application Form and submit to the PVCIndigenous@newcastle.edu.au.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Admission Scheme
This program enables applicants to be assessed on any formal qualifications, life experiences and other transferable skills to support your application.

Yapug is an identified initiative designed to help Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people gain skills and entry into undergraduate degrees here at the University. The program offers guaranteed entry into over 70 selected degrees.

Indigenous Law Early Entry Scheme
This program offers Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students preparing for the HSC an early entry into Bachelor of Laws (Honours) Combined. The scheme also guarantees a place in University accommodation at the Callaghan Campus and access to dedicated mentoring.

Miroma Bunbilla program (pathway to the Joint Medical Program)
Miroma Bunbilla Program (pathway to the Joint Medical Program) is an alternate entry pathway for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander candidates applying for the Joint Medical Program (JMP). Miroma Bunbila runs for five compulsory days, face-to-face, all designed to give you an insight into studying medicine.

The Wollotuka Institute offers a specialised degree in Global Indigenous Studies, as well as a number of courses delivered within a variety of degrees across the University.
