Fulbright support program

A Fulbright award is more than a scholarship - it is, in the words of Senator Fulbright, a means of fostering "leadership, learning, and empathy between cultures..."

What is Fulbright?

The Australian-American Fulbright Commission is a bi-national organisation with a long-standing international reputation for promoting excellence in research and education. The Fulbright Scholarships Program supports and nurtures American and Australian students, scholars, and professionals at many levels of their careers.

Applications for U.S. candidates are now open!

The University of Newcastle sponsors two postdoctoral scholarships in the Fulbright program. These programs enable recipients to conduct research at Newcastle that aligns with one or more of our Engagement Priorities.

The Postdoctoral Scholarship is open to researchers who have completed their PhD in the past two to three years.

U.S. candidates must follow instructions on The Council for International Exchange of Scholars (CIES) website for application submission.

Applications for Australian candidates are closed.

Research Advantage provides our researchers with a competitive edge when applying for a Fulbright Scholarship, the following steps have been established:

  1. Campus Fulbright Scholarship Information Session
  2. Application review and feedback
  3. Mock interview

The Fulbright application review and feedback will be facilitated by the Office of the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Research and will be conducted by UON Executive and UON Fulbright alumni. The mock interview process will resemble a Fulbright interview (obligatory if shortlisted) and will provide invaluable experience in preparing the candidate.

Those interested in applying for a Fulbright scholarship must complete the Notice of Intent to Apply Form and return to Research_Advantage@newcastle.edu.au as soon as practical.
