Current Research Projects
An Effective Targeted Therapy for Glioblastoma
Will explore the value of rapidly repurposing safe drugs currently used for other neurological diseases to the treatment of glioblastoma. They will test this drug in pre-clinical models. If successful, this treatment could be rapidly transferred to clinical practice.
Project Leads: Professor Hubert Hondermarck and Dr Chen Chen Jiang
CEST Imaging for Metabolic Assessment in brain tumours (CIMBA- B)
Will investigate the use of a non-invasive MRI technique to accurately identify the extent of disease in high grade gliomas in a phase 1-2 study. If successful, this method will be incorporated into routine treatment response and relapse assessment.
Project Leads: Dr Mahesh Kumar and Dr Jonathan Goodwin
Quality Advancement for Biobanking – Fostering Collaboration and Maximising Patient Benefit
Will bring together the MHF Brain Cancer Biobank and Chris O’Brien Lifehouse in Sydney to increase collaboration between brain biobanking centres, maximising the available resources for brain cancer research and ensuring critical sample mass for high impact translational research.
Project Leads: Laureate Professor Rodney Scott, Professor Chris Paul and Ms Cassandra Griffin
Promoting and Sustaining MHF Brain Cancer Care Coordination
Will examine the contribution of Brain Cancer Care Coordinators to the lives of people living with brain cancer diagnosis, their families, carers and clinicians to inform best practice models of supportive care, particularly in rural areas.
Project Leads: Professor Frances Kay-Lambkin and Dr Hannah Cootes
