Ms Clare Sykes

Clare is a mining industry professional with 25 years experience in operational and management roles across the public and private sectors. Clare’s career has encompassed the areas of industry development, strategy and planning, supply chain optimisation, research and analysis, technical engineering and project management across varied domestic and international industry segments.

Prior to her role at METS Ignited, Clare worked for the NSW Department of Industry, Division of Resources & Energy to assist businesses and industry partners to advance investment, innovation, industry development and competitive positioning for the NSW METS Sector.

Clare also has experience working in the private sector where she has acted as an independent consultant for private coal industry clients in the areas of investment and market analysis. She held various senior corporate roles including Director Supply Chain and Logistics for Southcorp Wines, based in the USA, and Transactional Corporate Finance with JP Morgan / Chase Manhattan Resources Team. She also held various mining engineering roles in open-cut and underground coal operations with BHP and Powercoal in Central Queensland, and the Hunter region.

Clare holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Mining - Hons 1) degree from the University of NSW and a Graduate Diploma of Applied Finance and Investment with the Securities Institute of Australia. She has undertaken the 12 month Advanced Leadership Program with Women and Leadership Australia in 2014 and was the recipient of the Peter Mitchell Churchill Fellowship in 1998.
