Doctoral Training Centres
Doctoral Training Centres (DTC) bring postgraduate students, academics and industry together to create new knowledge and drive better solutions across a variety of globally important sectors, with an emphasis on industry-embedded experience and transferable skills training.
Pacific Initiative
In collaboration with the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) a dedicated Pacific Initiative has been established, providing a supporting framework for critical environmental research supporting regional sustainability priorities.
NSW Energy & Resources Knowledge Hub
The NSW Energy and Resources Knowledge Hub is supporting strong links between industry, research organisations and government to drive innovation and growth for Australia’s energy and resources sector.
Trailblazer for Recycling and Clean Energy
The Trailblazer for Recycling and Clean Energy (TRaCE) is a collaborative partnership between UNSW and the University of Newcastle and industry partners, focused on moving innovative recycling and clean energy technologies out of the lab and into global manufacturing.
NSW Decarbonisation Innovation Hub
The Decarb Hub is co-led by UNSW and University of Newcastle, and its 3 Networks support, accelerate, and attract investment to decarbonisation tech and services in NSW. Through collaboration, partnerships and projects between industry, researchers and government, the Hub's aim is to drive decarbonisation forward in NSW and beyond, whilst reducing carbon emissions and creating jobs and economic growth. NIER hosts the Hunter node of the Hub to facilitate regional engagement.
University of Newcastle branch of the Drought Resilience Adoption & Innovation Hub
NIER researchers are working to support farmers and communities to get ready for drought. Through the Australian Government Future Drought Fund, eight Drought Resilience Adoption and Innovation Hubs are building drought preparedness in Australia. NIER researchers are contributing to the Southern Queensland and Northern NSW Drought Hub, providing decision making tools and new technologies.
Innovation Launchpad
An initiative of the NSW Energy and Resources Knowledge Hub and located at NIER, the Innovation Launchpad supports small to medium businesses to work with the University’s world-class researchers to test, pilot and demonstrate new products and technologies in order to scale up and potentially commercialise ideas.
UON Upper Hunter
UON Upper Hunter supports the area’s diversification goals of becoming an innovation intensive region by providing a flexible framework for students to access opportunities to develop applied research skills and enhance employment opportunities across a wide range of industries, whilst providing a supporting platform for existing research excellence and innovation.
