Sustainable Cities and Communities

        Public Access to Libraries
In 2024, as a university, we provided public access to our libraries, including physical and digital collections, under clearly defined terms:
- Free Community Access (In‑Library Use)
Our University Community Library Guide (publicly available) outlines that community members may access a large physical collection of books and journals free of charge, for in‑library use (see page 2).
- Visitor Access to Public Areas & Catalogue
Visitors are welcome to use the public areas of our libraries, consult the online catalogue, and access facilities and collections located in those open areas.
- Electronic Resource Access (License‑based)
Some public access is restricted to electronic resources only, in accordance with licensing agreements held by the University.
- Detailed Library Access Information Online
The University maintains a publicly available web page that provides detailed information about access to each of our libraries (opening hours, access policies, permitted use for visitors, etc.).

The University of Newcastle acknowledges the traditional custodians of the lands within our footprint areas: Awabakal, Darkinjung, Biripai, Worimi, Wonnarua, and Eora Nations. We also pay respect to the wisdom of our Elders past and present.
