Goal 10:
Reduced Inequalities
Anti-Discrimination Policies
In 2024, the University of Newcastle maintained a clear and comprehensive Workplace Bullying, Harassment and Discrimination Policy, which outlines our commitment to providing a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all members of the University community.
The policy explicitly states that the University will not tolerate, and is committed to preventing, all forms of:
- Workplace bullying
- Unlawful harassment
- Unlawful discrimination
Section 7 – Discrimination addresses the University’s obligations under relevant legislation, including the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW) and the Sex Discrimination Act 1984 (Cth), and affirms that all staff, students, and affiliates must be treated fairly and equitably regardless of personal characteristics such as race, sex, disability, sexual orientation, age, or religious belief.
This policy underpins the University's broader strategic commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion across all aspects of academic and professional life.
This policy was effective from the 8th of April 2024 and will be reviewed in April 2027.
