Access to University: Track Underrepresented Groups' Applications

The University of Newcastle is a sector leader in widening participation and promoting equity in higher education. We are committed to increasing access for students from underrepresented backgrounds and fostering an inclusive and diverse student body.

As part of this commitment, the University actively monitors and tracks applications, admissions, and outcomes for a range of identified equity groups, including:

  • Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students
  • Students from low socio-economic status (SES) backgrounds
  • Students from regional and remote areas
  • Students with disability
  • Women in non-traditional fields of study
  • Non-English speaking background students
  • Refugee and humanitarian entrants

These data sets are publicly available via our interactive Equity and Participation Power BI dashboard, which includes detailed tracking of equity proportions, application trends, enrolments, and retention rates.

This transparent and evidence-based approach ensures that the University can continue to improve access, participation, and success for students from all backgrounds in 2024 and beyond.
