Good Health and Well-being

        Smoke-Free Policy
In 2024, the University of Newcastle maintained commitment to promoting a healthy and safe environment for all students, staff, and visitors through our smoke-free policy. Smoking is prohibited across all campuses, with the exception of clearly designated smoking areas as outlined in the University's official policy documentation.
The University is formally recognised as a smoke-free workplace, and this policy extends beyond campus boundaries to include all activities conducted under the University's management and control. This includes off-campus events, fieldwork, and other University-affiliated programs. By implementing these measures, we aim to reduce exposure to second-hand smoke, support public health, and encourage healthier lifestyle choices within our community.
This policy is supported by signage, awareness campaigns, and access to resources that assist individuals who wish to quit smoking. This approach reflects our broader commitment to wellbeing and aligns with national health standards and community expectations.

The University of Newcastle acknowledges the traditional custodians of the lands within our footprint areas: Awabakal, Darkinjung, Biripai, Worimi, Wonnarua, and Eora Nations. We also pay respect to the wisdom of our Elders past and present.
