Goal 6:
Clean Water and Sanitation
Water Management Educational Opportunities
The University of Newcastle provides educational opportunities for local communities to learn about good water management through the Centre for Water, Climate, and Land (CWCL). Based at the Newcastle Institute for Energy and Resources (NIER), CWCL engages with regional communities to promote best practices in water management and risk mitigation, particularly in the context of climate change and variability.
In 2024, we directly supported water management education through a range of programs, including Children’s University, Pacific Island education initiatives, and STEM Challenges. Each program delivers science-based, impact-driven learning experiences that promote sustainable water practices.
Pacific Islands Engagement themes
Our partnership with the Pacific region includes engagement of three main areas.
Children discover learning outside of the classroom
From 16 to 24 June, students from across the Hunter, Central Coast and Manning Valley regions got a taste of University study as part of the Children’s University’s CU On Campus Discovery Days.
The University of Newcastle acknowledges the traditional custodians of the lands within our footprint areas: Awabakal, Darkinjung, Biripai, Worimi, Wonnarua, and Eora Nations. We also pay respect to the wisdom of our Elders past and present.
