Free Drinking Water Provided

The University of Newcastle provides free drinking water to students, staff and visitors across its campuses through drinking water fountains and filtered hot and cold water in student and staff kitchen facilities and Survival Stations. These facilities, that were available throughout 2025, offer convenient and free access to drinking water throughout the day, encouraging the use of reusable water bottles and reducing reliance on single-use bottled water.

Drinking water fountains and campus maps

Free drinking water fountains and bubblers are available across University campuses, providing accessible drinking water for students, staff and visitors.

The University's MazeMap campus navigation tool helps users locate drinking water bubblers alongside other campus amenities, while the University's Green Campus maps also identify drinking fountain locations. These resources make it easier for members of the University community to find free drinking water while moving between teaching, learning and recreational spaces.

Filtered water in student kitchens and Survival Stations

The University also provides free filtered hot and cold drinking water through shared student kitchens and campus Survival Stations.

The University's student kitchen facilities are available at Callaghan, the Auchmuty Information Common, Newcastle City and Ourimbah, offering filtered water alongside other amenities such as free microwaves. These shared spaces provide convenient opportunities for students to refill water bottles and access drinking water throughout their time on campus.

By providing free drinking water across teaching, study and communal spaces, the University supports the health and wellbeing of its campus community while encouraging more sustainable everyday practices.
