Thoughts and feelings can be overwhelming, consuming and extremely distressing at times. They are a reaction to your situation and show you care. We can’t erase our thoughts, feelings or memories. They are a part of us.

We often fight or try to change our feelings, thoughts or internal struggles. That’s ok if it works for you, however, that usually distracts us from fully engaging life.

Try to take the power out of unhelpful thoughts and feelings so you can put your energy into engaging in your life.

Don’t let your mind and feelings boss you around, YOU are the boss and can control what you do.

Acknowledge and allow your thoughts and feelings so you can do something that is important to you. The practice of Dadirri can help you listen to yourself, which then allows you the clarity to continue your journey.

Take a moment to ALLOW so you can CONNECT and GROW

Connection is powerful. Connect with the present and what is important. Reflect on the past. Connect with others. You can do this by noticing using deep listening or mindful awareness.

There are times in the day when things are going well - we may be very focused and connected to what we are doing in those moments.                        

Sometimes we may be interrupted by:

Our internal processes - thoughts, feelings, memories, sensations, urges.

Our environment - everything around us.

Focus on what is important and what you are doing right now, stay engaged in the present as best as you can, do what matters to you.

By practicing these skills often, you can reach out and connect to community, culture and country. Listen to yourself, notice your experiences so you have a choice in how to grow. Heal when you are ready. Reflect on the past and plan for the future when the time is right.

We all have the power to redirect our attention to what we are doing, to give us clarity and the focus to do what gives us meaning in life, moment by moment.

You are like the sky – all embracing and constant whilst at the same time ever-changing like the stars and everything on country.

Learning to ALLOW and CONNECT may give us a bit more clarity to then be able to GROW and move towards what is truly important to us. With this may come momentum.

To GROW, it helps to take action towards things that are important to us. Step by step.

Things that are important may include:

Caring for my family & friends

Learning, or passing on knowledge

Maintaining strong spirituality

Doing something that really counts

Connecting with art and creativity

Caring for country

Having fun

Working on my education and career

Caring for myself

Getting stuff done

Being healthy

Being active

Enjoying hobbies/activities

Laughter


It doesn’t have to be a big step, it can be a tiny one. They all add up. It is possible to do this, even if you are not feeling like you can or if your mind is telling you not to.

Is there something on the list that you feel you have been missing out on?

Could you plan to take action towards it somehow?

If you are unsure which direction to head in life think of someone you look up to, or someone that uplifts you.

What is it about them that gives you energy or that inspires you?

Are you able to bring this person to mind and think about their qualities and how they live their life?

By bringing them to mind it may highlight your own values and what really matters to you.

Take small steps towards what matters to you so you feel stronger.
