If you are travelling to the University of Newcastle from overseas or domestically, you have a few options to get to our main campuses from the airport.
Travelling to our campuses
If you are heading to Callaghan Campus or the Newcastle City Campus, you will need to make your way up the coast to Newcastle.
Train
There are regular trains from Sydney International Airport to Sydney Central train station where you can change trains for Newcastle.
It takes around 3.5 hours to Newcastle depending on how many stops the train makes.
You can plan your trip with Transport NSW.
Warabrook Station (on the Hunter line) is the closest station to the University's Callaghan campus. Newcastle Interchange is the closest station to the Newcastle City precinct.
Pick up from Central Coast and Newcastle Line or Hunter Line train stations
You can book a service with Waratah Hire Cars which can transport you to your accommodation in Newcastle from any train station between Fassifern or Warabrook and Newcastle Interchange inclusive at your own cost. Access the booking form here. Alternatively, you can book a taxi with 13cabs, or use the Uber or DiDI ride app.
International Students
2Airport Shuttle service will pick you up from Sydney Airport (SYD). They will transport directly to your first accommodation. View the conditions here.

If you arrive within a group, each student must request the service separately.
If you are travelling to our Central Coast Campus in Ourimbah or Gosford, you will need to make your way up the coast.
Shuttle Transfer
A direct pick-up and transfer service is available between Sydney International Airport to the Central Coast with local operator Central Coast Shuttles. Visit their website to make a booking online. You will be contacted via email to confirm your booking details and payment options.
The journey from Sydney to the Central Coast is around 2 hours.
Train
Alternatively, you may want to travel by train. There are regular trains from Sydney International Airport to Sydney Central Station where you can change trains for the Central Coast.
Central Coast campuses are around 2 hours away by train, depending on how many stops the train makes.

Gosford Station (along the Central Coast and Newcastle Line) is within walking distance of the University's Gosford Campus.
Ourimbah Station (also along the Central Coast and Newcastle Line) is the closest station the Ourimbah Campus.
Our Central Coast Campus is close to public transport links and the M1 Pacific Motorway.
International Students

If you are arriving at Sydney International Airport and travelling to our Sydney Campus, you have several options to go to and from the airport.
Our Sydney Campus is around 40 minutes by train from the airport.

Newcastle Airport at Williamtown is around a 40-minute drive from our Callaghan Campus, and also from City Campus.

International Students
Waratah Hire Cars can pick you up from Newcastle Williamtown Airport (NTL) or from a train station within Greater Newcastle area. They will transport you to your first accommodation in Newcastle. Request a Service here.
