Safe Cycling on Campus

Cyclists play an important role in supporting a safe, sustainable and active campus environment. To help keep our community safe, all cyclists are expected to follow NSW road rules and ride responsibly when travelling to, from and around the University of Newcastle. Riders should keep left, use marked bike lanes where available, and always give way to pedestrians on shared paths and footpaths. When moving through high‑traffic areas on campus, cyclists must slow down, ride predictably, and dismount when entering or leaving any University Bike Hub facility in line with the End of Trip (EoT) Terms and Conditions.

While using the Bike Hubs, cyclists must park only in the provided racks, ensure their bicycle does not obstruct others, and use their own secure lock. E‑bikes must not be charged inside Bike Hub facilities, and personal belongings should not be left unattended or stored outside of allocated areas. Riders are reminded not to allow others to tailgate into secure facilities and to report any safety or security concerns to University Security. By following NSW cycling requirements and the University’s Bike Hub Terms and Conditions, cyclists contribute to a safe, respectful and accessible campus for everyone.
