Statement: Contract cheating
The majority of our students behave with honesty and integrity when it comes to their coursework and assignments, however we are aware that contract cheating does occur.
We have a comprehensive conduct management process to prevent and detect academic fraud. For example, our students must complete an Academic Integrity Training Module, and our Student Conduct Rule outlines clear penalties for contract cheating, ranging from a warning, through to expelling the student and revoking their degree.
While we have not seen a notable change in the number of students engaged in contract cheating over recent years, we remain committed to proactively addressing the behaviour.
That’s why we are currently piloting the Turnitin software product ‘Authorship Investigate’, which detects contract cheating. The trial is ongoing, with results expected in the first half of 2019.
