For those that missed the all-staff forum last Friday, the University has established the Institute for Regional Futures. Positioned with the College of Human and Social Futures, there is now one research institute aligned with each of our three Colleges. While our new Institute focuses on humanities and social sciences, it provides a platform for multi-disciplinary research across the University.

The work of the Institute builds on the 60-year history of the Hunter Research Foundation Centre and its record of delivery for our local region, with a broadened scope on regions and regionalism in Australia and the Asia-Pacific.

The Institute’s core team of researchers work closely with partners in government, industry and the community - often in complex and sensitive contexts - to support the development and delivery of public strategy, policy and reform.

During May and June, Institute Executive Director Professor Roberta Ryan, will be appearing at College Conversation events to speak with researchers across all three Colleges about the Institute, how we can provide support and opportunities for collaboration. Details about these events can be found through the Colleges’ usual information channels.

Find out more about the Institute for Regional Futures by exploring our SharePoint and following it for updates, or email us at IRF@newcastle.edu.au.
