Top Takeaways

  • Visiting places where startups thrive and innovation happens provides you with a unique depth of knowledge, understanding and connections that can be found in no other place. I2N networking events are a great place to join the dots and stay connected to the ecosystem.
  • Intrapreneurship is a pathway all organisations should implement. When companies give staff the machinery and flexibility to bring their innovative ideas to life, talented employees won’t have to leave to make their idea happen.
  • Look for opportunities to intern with companies or startups to get some exposure and experience. Sometimes taking a pay cut opens new doors open that would have stayed closed if you hadn’t changed your trajectory.
  • Don’t try to do everything yourself. Focus on what you love and are good at and find others to help you with the things that are not part of your skillset.

The University of Newcastle's I2N works with individuals and organisations from across the Hunter region and beyond to turn ideas and challenges into opportunity. As a leading driver of economic and business growth, the I2N cultivates an entrepreneurial mindset that is behind many of the region's most innovative businesses and leaders.
