Algorithmic Justice Symposium
On Friday 14 July 2023, the Centre for Law and Social Justice hosted its Algorithmic Justice Symposium at the University of Newcastle Sydney Campus.
The Symposium reflected on the advances and challenges of algorithmic intervention in the broader context of justice innovation. The Symposium considered how these changes and challenges continue to be addressed in the justice system and how developments in the field of algorithmic justice innovation might be advanced in the next 5 - 10 years. The Symposium was attended by 25 people in person and 10 people online. The Symposium included four sessions under the thematic areas of:
- Risk Assessment and AI Regulation
- Governance, Decision Making & Vulnerability
- AI Systems
- Court Systems & Alternative Legal Services
The keynotes were delivered by Professor Tania Sourdin, Emeritus Professor Terry Carney, and Professor John Zeleznikow. The Symposium had representation from across 12 institutions across Australia, Indonesia and the United Kingdom (UK). The full program can be found here.
