The ceremony will include students graduating from all degree levels across the University’s Colleges of Engineering, Science and Environment; Health, Medicine and Wellbeing; and Human and Social Futures.

University of Newcastle Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Alex Zelinsky, AO said the graduations would give students who have studied in Singapore the opportunity to celebrate their achievements and join an international network of graduates from the University.

“I am delighted that we get the chance to celebrate our Singapore graduates. This will be an exciting moment as they cross the stage to receive their degrees.

“Over the years, more than 4,000 students in Singapore have graduated with degrees from the University of Newcastle and we now have a network of around 7600 University of Newcastle alumni who call Singapore home.

“Singapore is one of Asia's most advanced hubs for education, research and innovation, and we are proud to have students graduating from degrees including Engineering, Business and Commerce, and a range of health degrees.”

Professor Zelinsky said the graduations showcased the expanding relationships between the University and the Asia Pacific region.

“Our University is committed to creating strong partnerships with the Asia Pacific region and we see our presence in Singapore as having the potential to not only allow more students to graduate with internationally recognised qualifications from our university but also to foster stronger business and tourism relationships for our region.

“The students who are graduating will join a cohort of successful, intelligent, and globally-connected alumni and I wish them every success as they enter the workforce and build their careers.”

Earlier this year the University officially opened the Newcastle Australia Institute of Higher Education as a signpost to the University’s continued investment in the region.

The Institute continues the University of Newcastle’s commitment to the Asia Pacific region by allowing students to study in Singapore and complete a degree identical to the degrees students complete at our Australian campuses.

The graduation ceremony will be held on Saturday 19 November at The Star Performing Arts Centre.

Parents, relatives and friends who are unable to attend the ceremony in Singapore, can watch via the livestream, available here.

On Friday the University also held its first alumni function in Singapore post Covid, with over 270 of our fantastic alumni community in Singapore reconnecting with the University.

Professor Zelinsky said it was a fantastic opportunity to reconnect with alumni in Singapore.

“After a two-year break due to the pandemic, we were excited to have the opportunity to reconnect in person with our alumni in Singapore and celebrate the successes of our alumni.

“I am constantly impressed by the achievements of our alumni as they continue to be leaders in their field, tackling some of the world’s greatest challenges."
