Friday, 11 November 2022

In a bold stride towards a more sustainable future, the University of Newcastle stands at the forefront of climate change as it launches the Hunternet Future Leaders Program for 2022.

17.2.2 Hunternet Leadership Programme

Sustainability, Servant leadership and Growth were this program's main tenets. Each team was given the task of positioning themselves as consulting firms and implementing at least three SDGs that could be accomplished through their own organizations. Since the goal of this challenge is to have your consultant business launch the organization on its SDG journey, the chosen organization should not currently have any SDGs in place. The desired objective must be something the organization could immediately adopt and try to implement. Each significant gain and contribution to the organization must be explained clearly. The project was launched on 28th July 2022 and concludes at the University of Newcastle City Precinct's Gala Dinner, the winners of the various programs were revealed on November 11th, 2022.

The University of Newcastle, a prominent institution setting the standard for climate action on the national, regional, and worldwide stages, is a patron member of the Hunter Region SDG Task Force. The University focuses on development of innovative, resourceful, and creative graduates and future leaders in industry, the profession, and the community. The University believes in providing research-led teaching and providing solutions to real world problems such as climate change. The partnership between University of Newcastle and Hunternet’s partnership goes a long way as The University’s Environmental Sustainability Plan 2019-2025 is guided by the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals and is the roadmap to contributing to the solutions, through Hunternet operations. The University will be playing a significant role in the program of 2022 as it will help various participants taking part in the SDG program with the implementation of SDG in their selected companies.

The Hunter Region SDG Task Force was created in 2020. The taskforce is a collection of neighbourhood companies, government agencies, and not-for-profit organizations that are cooperating to advance the UN SDGs in the Hunter Region. While the organizations work together to fulfill the 17 SDGs, the taskforce's main objective is to hasten SDG progress in the area. This is accomplished by encouraging accountability, collaborating, and educating. The Hunter SDG Taskforce website offers several resources for organizations to start their SDG journey and connects the dots for organizations in the area. The SDG compass is one of the more notable materials offered.
