Popular courses revealed as choice and lifestyle draw students to University of Newcastle
As more than 50,000 students across NSW await their ATAR results and lock in their University enrolment choices, the University of Newcastle has revealed some of its most popular courses for 2024.
For the first time this year, The University of Newcastle opened up direct applications to study – rather than through UAC – and received overwhelmingly positive feedback from students and school communities.
“From the applications we’ve received so far, our most popular programs for 2024 are Nursing, Law and Education,” said Deputy Vice-Chancellor Global, Professor Kent Anderson.
“We’ve also seen strong demand for our new Bachelor of Media and Communications, which has replaced our Bachelor of Communication.
“Interestingly, we’ve already received more than 3000 applications from people in Sydney who want to study with us.
“We know that the cost of living is really challenging at the moment, and people are opting out of the expensive capital cities and looking at having a better lifestyle and a more manageable budget by choosing places like Newcastle.”
“Lots of people are telling us that they’re even considering switching from studying in Sydney and moving to our region or, indeed, back to the Hunter because they can have the best of both worlds here.”
“We have a world-class University here without the exorbitant real estate costs of Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra,” Professor Anderson said.
University of Newcastle Vice-Chancellor Professor Alex Zelinsky congratulated HSC students on completing their studies and invited them to attend the University’s campuses on Thursday to learn more about the institution’s excellent courses.
“We’re ready to answer questions from everyone – whether they did better, the same or worse than expected – and we can show them that there really is a place for them at the University of Newcastle,” Professor Zelinsky said.
“We repeatedly hear from our students that they feel like they belong at our uni – and we really do want to support the next group of students coming through from high school to know that there are lots of different ways to achieve their goals,” he said.
“Our Info Day is a drop-in style event, no registration required and we’re encourage people to bring their friends along, enjoy the music and food and ask all the questions they need,” Professor Zelinsky said.
