Inaugural Staff Giving Week a success

Thursday, 8 December 2016

Twelve events were held at Callaghan campus during Staff Giving Week (28 Nov - 2 Dec) with more than 400 staff gathering to celebrate the impact that our generous staff giving has in assisting UON’s talented and dedicated students and researchers in need.

Staff Giving Week articleSpeakers, including Professor John Germov, Winnie Eley, Professor John O’Connor, Professor Cathy Coleborne, Associate Professor Suzanne Ryan and Greg Anderson, thanked and celebrated staff who donate to UON scholarships and endowments in various ways. Several groups were also lucky enough to hear first-hand from a student whose university journey has been aided by staff giving.

More than $170,000 has been donated by staff to the Shaping Futures Scholarship Fund since the fund's establishment five years ago. Eighty-nine Shaping Futures Scholarships have been awarded to students experiencing hardship so far.

During Staff Giving Week, the number of UON staff donors more than doubled, meaning more than four additional dedicated and capable students or researchers each year can be provided with the assistance they need to continue their learning or research - all because of UON’s amazing staff donors.

The Staff Giving Week organising team in the Office of Alumni and Philanthropy would like to thank everyone who attended an event and all who made Staff Giving Week a success, including our generous staff and speakers. They would also like to acknowledge the ongoing support of the Staff Giving Champions around the University and Professor John Germov, the Chair of UON’s Staff Giving program.
