Why I donate
Giving back to the communities we’re part of is very important to us. Providing scholarships for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people studying health degrees enables us to make a practical difference in the lives of people living in regional and remote communities.

The Aspen Medical Foundation was established in 2008 by my parents, Glenn and Amelda Keys, as a way to give back to the communities we are connected to. We have strong family links to Newcastle and our values are deeply aligned with the University of Newcastle where we have supported a range of different programs to advance First Nations health since 2018.
The Foundation focuses on three pillars: First Nations health, disability health and Indo-Pacific health through which we work to foster thriving communities by removing barriers and embracing opportunities. We decided to establish the Aspen Medical Foundation Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Scholarship because we recognise the unique opportunity to make both an immediate and long term difference through scholarships.
Easing some of the financial burden associated with studying at university is a practical and meaningful way for us to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students at the University of Newcastle to further their knowledge and careers in health.
We also recognise that by supporting individual students, we can have a long term positive impact on the communities they come from and the communities in which they will work as health professionals.
Seeing the scholarship recipients thrive and continue their journey to become future health leaders, building on the collective cultural understanding and connections that are so important within First Nations communities, reinforces why our partnership with the University of Newcastle is so important.
