The Hunt Family's story
Giving through the University has been a no-brainer for our family. Fidelma, our five kids and me sit down around the kitchen table every year and discuss where we are going to give back to the community. We appreciate that we are in a position to do this, and as my two daughters and I all went to Newcastle Uni it was a unanimous decision.
I think we are all a little self-serving. We as a family all feel good when we assist people in need – it works for us and it works for the recipient. We believe that if you have a little, give a little, and if you have a lot, give a lot.
Students experiencing educational disadvantages are some of the people who require our assistance most. It is an area that can be overlooked, and it is always our family’s aim to assist those who need it first. Everyone deserves an equal opportunity to develop their talents and interests, and to enjoy supportive relationships with their teachers and peers so they can reach their maximum potential.
I certainly wasn't the best student, but the assistance, guidance and understanding the team at the Uni gave me helped me to get through... P’s get degrees. My daughters, though, are both quite naturally academic – it must come from their mum!
Our family just want those less fortunate than us to have the opportunities we have had. Helping students to improve their current position and opportunities will not only impact their lives through the education they receive, but also the lives of those around them.
