New Hunter Water Indigenous Scholarships
“I hope to give back to others by speaking at rural schools and explaining that being at a disadvantage doesn’t have to be a hindrance. It can be a driver of determination” – Jack Roberts, First year Bachelor of Commerce student, and one of four University of Newcastle students already benefiting from generous philanthropic support received from Hunter Water.
The partnership has created three scholarships that will change lives and bring new talent and ideas into our community; while helping to further Hunter Water’s equity and diversity goals. In addition to financial support to help students with their studies, the scholarships mark the start of an ongoing relationship that can lead to valuable initiatives like on-the-job training and mentoring.
The University of Newcastle acknowledges the traditional custodians of the lands within our footprint areas: Awabakal, Darkinjung, Biripai, Worimi, Wonnarua, and Eora Nations. We also pay respect to the wisdom of our Elders past and present.
