First LGBTQIA+ Shaping Futures scholar announced
Proud Gadigal Guringai man Luka Bungaree is in his second year of a Bachelor of Social Science majoring in Criminology and is the first recipient of the LGBTQIA+ Shaping Futures Scholarship which aims to improve access to higher education for disadvantaged students who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and/or queer, plus other diverse orientations and gender identities.
We are very grateful to all the generous staff, students and community members who have helped launch this scholarship.
I am extremely proud and honoured to be the inaugural recipient of this scholarship. It means a lot to me that the donors and others could see how important it is for LGBTQIA+ students to be represented and supported. This scholarship is an important part of alleviating the financial stress for me and others, giving us the ability to succeed and continue to make a change in the world, as I intend to do."
