Alumni take on challenge to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students

Tuesday, 1 April 2025

For the third year in a row, a team of 11 colleagues from GHD are pushing their limits in preparation for the upcoming Port Macquarie IRONMAN in May. Leading the way are our proud alumni, united by a shared goal to raise funds for scholarships to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.

The full IRONMAN includes a 3.8km swim, a 180km cycle, and a 42.2km run. Alum Quentin Norquay, Senior Civil Engineer & Team Lead at GHD and Blake Drew, Civil Designer Drafter at GHD are both taking on the full IRONMAN challenge, with other team members participating in the Half IRONMAN relay.

But beyond testing their physical endurance, this challenge is about something even greater: breaking down barriers to education. 100 percent of every donation will support scholarships for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to build a better future through higher education.

Alum Michael Ulph, Technical Director - Communications & Stakeholder Engagement at GHD, shared the team’s motivation:

Aboriginal people face a range of challenges, from intergenerational trauma to blatant racism. For most of the participants in this Ironman, it’s the hardest physical thing they have ever attempted, and we want to use this challenge to give back and fundraise to help others.”
