Wollotuka Student Wins 2020 Higher Degree by Research Excellence Award
Cara Cross has won best forthcoming publication for her article, Our Country, Our Healer. Aboriginal Apothecaries of Burning Mountain during the inaugural Higher Degrees by Research Excellence Awards ceremony in December 2020.
Relishing the opportunity to attend the event in person, HDR students from all Schools were entertained by a lively jazz band before the awards got underway.
The event replaced the NUPSA awards, which traditionally celebrated the success of the University of Newcastle's HDR candidates across a range of achievements.
Some students had already had their achievements recognised by Faculties and the Excellence Awards provided additional opportunity to have their success celebrated with peers from across the University during what was a particularly isolating and difficult year.
Ms Cross also achieved her candidacy this year with her research: Our Land, Our Healer: Exploring the Use of Sulphur, Sulphate Minerals and Sulphate Clays Within Aboriginal Pharmacopoeia.
