Third Annual Thank You Breakfast
The Faculty of Business and Law hosted its external partners at a Thank You Breakfast at Merewether Surfhouse on 17 November last year.
The annual event acknowledges the generosity of industry professionals who support the work readiness of business, commerce and law students.
Our key note speaker this year was CEO, Port of Newcastle, Mr Geoff Crews. A proud Novocastrian and alumni of the Faculty of Business and Law, Geoff presented a short history of his career along with current and long term plans for the Port of Newcastle including the expansion of a large cruise ship terminal which will start operations in late 2017 injecting major tourism dollars into the Hunter Economy.
Katie Lee is a final year Bachelor of Business student studying Tourism and Management in the Newcastle Business School and spoke passionately about her work ready experiences and opportunities made available to her in the Business School that will be invaluable to her career and future endeavours.
Sam Carman had just completed a Bachelor of Laws (Hons)/Bachelor of Communication and will be admitted as a lawyer in February. Sam praised the opportunities he was given while at the Law School, particular the Practice Placement Program which saw him being placed in the legal area of Port of Newcastle along with King & Wood Mallesons.
The Faculty continues to build strategic links with local organisations to provide industry-relevant learning experiences for students. In 2016, a record number of local professionals supported students through Work Integrated Learning courses, the Lucy Mentoring Program, Industry Scholarships, industry visits, guest presentations and lectures.
