Getting Ahead of the Impact Curve
Measuring impact with Faculty academics
The importance of measuring impact to universities worldwide is steadily increasing. To ensure the Faculty is in a good position to demonstrate the impact of what we do, academic leaders decided a workshop would be a great way to raise awareness and start the conversation.
Jointly hosted by Dr Johanna Macneil, Associate Professor Jim Jose and Dr Paul Docherty, the Impact Workshop saw 30 Faculty staff join in learning about approaches to measuring impact in their research and community work. Staff heard from various speakers who are already working through projects which evaluate impact. The group also workshopped some ways impact can be measured in existing and future projects.
The response to the workshop was positive, as many academics were grateful to have a collective discussion around the rewards and challenges of measuring impact. The Faculty hopes to continue the conversation around the importance of measuring the impact of our activities.
