Bernie to Support Apprehended Domestic Violence Orders
Developing a mobile phone application for defendants of ADVOs
Newcastle Law School lecturer Ms Sher Campbell, together with Dr Lynne McCormack (University of Newcastle) and Dr Colin James (ANU College of Law), have been awarded a grant to work on a collaborative research project to reduce breaching of Apprehended Domestic Violence Orders (ADVOs) in NSW. The $150, 000 grant from the NSW Department of Finance, Services and Innovation has enabled the development of ‘Bernie’ – a mobile phone application for defendants of ADVOs. ‘Bernie’ will be freely available through lawyers employed by the Hunter Community Legal Centre advising respondents in ADVO applications at Newcastle Local Court.
