University of Newcastle Professor elected as World Academy of Ceramics academician
University of Newcastle’s Professor Ajayan Vinu has been elected as an academician in the World Academy of Ceramics.
Individuals that are elected have made internationally renowned contributions to the advancement of ceramics culture, science and technology. The Academy’s total membership is limited to approximately 200 people internationally.
Professor Vinu was elected for “outstanding contribution to nanoporous inorganic materials, and developed novel methods of making ordered nanoporous nitrides with improved features and multiple functions,” at a recent event held by the Academy in Perugia, Italy.

“I am excited and humbled to receive this great honor at this young age which will definitely help us to make more of an impact in the field of advanced nanoporous ceramics and further realise our Global Innovative Center for Advanced Nanomaterials’s vision of 'save the world and help the society using advanced nanotechnology'.
"I dedicate this award to all my hardworking students, staff and collaborators who's dedication and innovative research helped me to achieve this status of academician.”
Professor Vinu is the Director of the Global Innovation Centre for Advanced Nanomaterials (GICAN) in the Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment, which will be hosting the 3rd International Conference on Emerging Advanced Nanomaterials (ICEAN) in Newcastle this October.
