The National Schools' Poster Competition cooperative, which is the brainchild of Associate Professor Peter Howley from the School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences, was announced the winner of the Best Cooperative Project Award 2017 at the International Statistical Institute's (ISI's) 61st World Statistics Congress earlier this month.

Statistical Cooperative Rewarded with International Accolade

The accolade, which is judged by peers and ISI members, is awarded once every two years, in recognition of outstanding, innovative, and influential statistical literacy projects that affect a broad segment of the general public, whilst involving the cooperation of stakeholder institutions including national statistical offices, schools, statistical societies and media organisations. A monetary prize to the amount of 1000 euros will be bestowed in recognition of this National Statistical Literacy Initiative.

Peter’s passion for and direction of the National Schools' Poster Competition has led to a broad range of collaborative industry opportunities both locally and globally. In addition to being invited to be guest editor for a special edition of the Statistical Education Research Journal, Peter has been invited to inform and lead changes in the International Statistical Literacy Initiative, and work collectively on related international matters with the Australian Association of Mathematics Teachers, the American Statistical Association and the New Zealand Statistical Association committees.
