Flora of the Hunter Book and Museum Exhibition Launch
A wonderful evening was had at the Newcastle Museum on Thursday 14 March for the Book Launch and Museum Exhibition Launch of “Flora of the Hunter”.
The beautiful illustrations will be showing at the Newcastle Museum 12 March – 9 June. Prof Chris Grof - Honorary Director of the Don McNair Herbarium - opened the proceedings with a welcome to country and a thank you to the sponsors and donors. Professor Lee Smith Pro Vice-Chancellor Faculty of Science welcomed the guests and provided background regarding the project and it’s origins.
The University of Newcastle is grateful for the generous support of all those who committed time, talent and treasure to bring the "Flora of the Hunter Region: Endemic Trees and Larger Shrubs" publication to fruition.
This exhibition and the Flora of the Hunter Region publication have been made possible through the partnership between our donors, students, alumni, researchers and staff.

The Authors of the Book
Dr Stephen Bell BSc(Hons), PhD is a conjoint fellow at the University of Newcastle, a self-employed botanist and part-time taxonomist who has been botanically exploring the Hunter Region for over 25 years. During this time, he has undertaken numerous surveys and collected many thousands of plant specimens for various herbaria, and has discovered and described several taxa new to science.
Christine Roddey BNHI(Hons), AssocDipDes is a scientific illustrator, designer and tutor. Currently based in Victoria, she has roots in the Hunter Valley. A graduate and former lecturer at the University of Newcastle in Scientific Illustration, Christine has trained in herbarium practice and specialises in ethnobotany and aquatic ecosystems.
Dr Anne Llewellyn BAVA, Grad Dip Art, MDes, PhD is a conjoint senior lecturer at the University of Newcastle and has been a practicing natural history illustrator and educator for over 30 years. Her research interests focus on field work and its application to the depiction of Australia's diverse flora and fauna .
