University Council increases its student representation
At its meeting on 30 August 2024, the University Council passed a special resolution approving an increase in the number of its elected student members.
From 1 January 2025, student representation on the Council will include an undergraduate and a postgraduate student position providing for a greater diversity of student perspectives.
Both positions will be elected annually and will have a term of office from 1 January to 31 December.
Nominations are now open for student members to be elected to the University Council as well as to the Academic Senate and to College Boards. Nominations close at 5:00pm AEST, Wednesday 25 September 2024.

Council is the University's most senior decision-making body responsible for the oversight, management and development of strategic plans and key policies. Council monitors the overall performance and accountability of the organisation and is subject to standards of corporate governance.
The Council Charter sets out the role and responsibilities of the Council and its members, the responsibilities delegated to committees or management, as well as the membership and the operation of the Council.
Elections for student positions on University Council, Academic Senate and College Boards are conducted by Governance and Assurance Services with the University Secretary being the Returning Officer.
The University has a range of opportunities for students to become involved in Committees that contribute to the teaching, learning and the business of the University.
The student voice is an important voice in University matters and ensures that students are able to have a say in important decisions.
Students who are elected to a Committee need to attend meetings, read the meeting papers and be prepared to discuss items at the meetings and share their perspective as a student.
Student representatives on University Council, Academic Senate and College Boards serve for a period of one year from 1 January to 31 December.
