President of Tanzania receives Honorary Doctorate from UON
In an historic ceremony, the University of Newcastle today conferred the honorary degree of Doctor of Laws upon His Excellency Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, fourth President of the United Republic of Tanzania. President Kikwete is the first head of state to be honored in this way by the University.

University of Newcastle researchers commence Medical Cannabis Trials
University of Newcastle researchers will undertake critical research as part of Australia's first medical cannabis trial, announced this morning by Premier Mike Baird and Minister for Medical Research Pru Goward.
The University of Newcastle acknowledges the traditional custodians of the lands within our footprint areas: Awabakal, Darkinjung, Biripai, Worimi, Wonnarua, and Eora Nations. We also pay respect to the wisdom of our Elders past and present.
