Three young Newcastle Law School alumni have been recognised for their outstanding work.

The University of Newcastle is hosting the National Indigenous Tertiary Education Games and celebrating the 20th anniversary of the games after first being celebrated by just 30 students at what was then the Wollotuka School for Aboriginal Studies.

The Hunter Innovation Festival (14-17 July) is a not-for-profit initiative which aims to inspire a culture of innovation in Australian businesses, industries and communities. The University of Newcastle is a sponsor of the Festival in 2015.

Leading UON researcher, Professor Brian Kelly, Chair of NIER's Centre for Resources Health and Safety has published an editorial in the June edition of The Australian Journal of Rural Health. As an internationally respected mental health authority, Professor Kelly has held a career-long interest in the psychosocial aspects of mental health in rural and isolated areas.

Jill Donald has been awarded the Faculty of Health medal in the School of Nursing and Midwifery in the school's 25th anniversary year. Lecturer Carol Norton moved from Jill's mentor and teacher to friend during a very challenging time, and learned a lot from her student along the way.
