Funding Success for Construction Management Researchers
A research team from Construction Management, led by Dr Jason von Meding, have successfully secured funding of $38,250 from the Australia China Council to establish the REACT Network.
The team brings together three prestigious international institutions, the University of Newcastle (Australia), Beijing Normal University (China) and Ming Chuan University (Chinese Taipei).
The Network aims to facilitate lasting collaboration between the partners in the area of disaster resilience, to invigorate a regional resilience education movement, and to position the network partners strategically to lead wider initiatives that protect society from shocks to physical, socio-cultural, politico-economic and natural systems.
The project will consider both natural hazards and human induced threats in pursuing a consensus opinion on what resilience is (e.g. what can be resilient and what can it be resilient to?), what it means to society and how it might be embedded in higher education.
All three partner institutions have strong backgrounds in education linked to disaster resilience, as well as institutional research credentials that underpin their understanding of resilience and a capacity to deliver cutting-edge content to students in Architecture and Construction Management (UoN), Urban Planning (MCU) and Civil/Environmental Engineering (BNU).
The project will enable cultural and knowledge exchanges between academic delegations visiting each partner institution and endeavours to stimulate further international collaborations.
