Equity, diversity and inclusion
It’s the right thing to do
Our equitable and diverse Faculty creates and promotes opportunities for people of all backgrounds. We are committed to challenging ourselves, and others, to display moral leadership and collective regard and to naming oppressive and disrespectful behaviours.
By utilising the skills and capabilities of all members of our workforce, we are building on the University’s equity and social justice values.
The Faculty is committed to:
- Treating all staff and students with dignity and respect regardless of their age, race, ethnicity, religion, culture, sexuality, sex, gender identity, disability or other feature.
- Creating and fostering inclusion and belonging through a supportive, safe and understanding work and study environment.
Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee
The Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee (EDIC) drives the Faculty’s enduring commitment to equity and social justice.
The EDIC has implemented a Faculty-specific operational plan, underpinned by the University’s broader equity plans, including but not limited to, focus areas such as:
- Gender equity
- Culturally diverse and underrepresented backgrounds
- Low socioeconomic status
All staff members in the Faculty are welcome to contribute thoughts, ideas and feedback.
If you are interested or have any questions regarding the Committee, please contact the EDIC.
The University of Newcastle acknowledges the traditional custodians of the lands within our footprint areas: Awabakal, Darkinjung, Biripai, Worimi, Wonnarua, and Eora Nations. We also pay respect to the wisdom of our Elders past and present.
