Learning and teaching

The Faculty of Education and Arts is committed to achieving excellence in all aspects of curriculum, learning and teaching. In particular, we focus on student-centred learning, high-quality professionally focused education, and excellence in standards of scholarship in teaching.

Initiating staff development schemes

Our commitment to teaching excellence is reflected in our support for University initiatives for encouraging staff development. All staff engage in ongoing professional development in learning and teaching matters including through short courses and workshops run through Learning Design and Teaching Innovation and the Newcastle Academy.

Staff are also encouraged and supported to apply for teaching awards and fellowships, both within the University and nationally.

We encourage student participation and new learning experiences

All our students have a quality learning experience. To support this commitment, we have introduced a career-awareness program, promoting the value of student engagement in the whole educational experience, and instituted student forums to enhance participation in their educational environment at both School and Faculty level.

Giving our students hands-on support

All our students are supported by readily accessible student services and program advice, and academic advice is always available from lecturers and Course Coordinators through Canvas, email contact and personal appointments.
