In this thought-provoking session, we will explore the extraordinary achievements, challenges, and societal impact of women who have defied boundaries and shattered glass ceilings in the world of sport.

The evening will include the opportunity to hear from a dynamic panel of women in sports. The panel members will delve into the pressing topics that shape the landscape of women in sport today. From gender equality and representation to challenges faced on and off the field, tour panelists will offer valuable insights and personal anecdotes, shedding light on the triumphs and hurdles they have encountered throughout their careers.

Keynote by Dr Alyce Barnes

Dr Alyce Barnes will deliver a keynote exploring positive societal impact of women in sport as well as addressing current issues.

Dr Alyce is the Senior Project Manager and Co-Investigator for the Daughters and Dads Active and Empowered program at the Centre for Active Living and Learning, University of Newcastle & the Active Living Research Program at the Hunter Medical Research Institute. The program is engaging daughters and dads to increase physical activity and social and emotional well-being in pre-adolescent girls.

Dr Alyce also brings personal experience to the table having played representative touch football, and has three daughters who are now starting their own sporting journey. She will provide some personal and practical takeaways for the audience

Panel Discussion

Joining Dr Alyce is a dynamic panel of women in sports including:

- Tara Andrews, former Newcastle Jets women's player.

-  Philippa Anderson, professional surfer.

-  Susannah Cooke, Women’s Rugby (UON 7s / Brumbies) and 4th Year University of Newcastle Bachelor of Medical Science/Doctor of Medicine student.

The panel members will delve into the pressing topics that shape the landscape of women in sport today. From gender equality and representation to challenges faced on and off the field, the panelists will offer valuable insights and personal anecdotes, shedding light on the triumphs and hurdles they have encountered throughout their careers.
