Driven by a deep belief in the power of education, Laura Prael has dedicated years to giving back to the next generation through mentoring, public speaking, and strategic advisory roles. As one of the University’s most passionate and committed alumni volunteers, she has shared her time, insight, and expertise to empower countless students and alumni to embrace their potential and thrive in their careers. We’re proud to honour her as the 2025 Alumni Award for Outstanding Volunteerism recipient.

From her early days as a University of Newcastle student with big dreams to her role as Founder and Director of LEP Digital, Laura Prael has carved out a career working on incredible, strategic campaigns all around the world. Yet, beyond her professional success, it is her unwavering commitment to giving back through years of dedicated and diverse volunteer work with the University that truly defines her legacy.

“I’ve been fortunate to have some wonderful people guide me on my career through my studies and in my corporate life and if I can now give, even just a little bit to help one other person to find the success that I have, then I feel like I’ve done my part.”

For Laura, giving back is both a privilege and a responsibility. With a deep belief in the transformative power of education, she has become one of the University’s most passionate and committed alumni volunteers, pouring her time, insight, and energy into mentoring, public speaking, and strategic advisory roles. At key University events, from Open Day to Graduation, Laura has been a guiding light, inspiring prospective students to envision the possibilities within communication and marketing, as well as empowering early-career professionals to embrace their individuality, trust their strengths, and step boldly into their futures.

As a member of the Marketing Industry Consultative Committee, Laura plays a pivotal role in shaping the University’s marketing curriculum to ensure it is responsive to the realities of today’s fast-moving digital landscape. By bringing her industry knowledge into the classroom design process, she helps prepare future graduates with the skills, adaptability, and creativity they need to thrive in a global market.

“I get just as much out of mentoring as I give because it’s so exciting to see people’s passions, new ideas and the technology coming out of the University, and I get to see that first-hand through the students that I mentor.”

Laura’s contributions are more than moments on a stage or in a meeting room, they are ripple effects of encouragement, practical guidance, and inspiration for countless students and fellow alumni.

Laura demonstrates how graduates can create meaningful impact by giving back to their communities through professional support and mentorship. Proudly contributing to the Central Coast, where she lives and works, Laura’s dedication to uplifting and inspiring those around her shows how one person’s commitment can strengthen communities, drive positive change, and help future generations find their authentic voice in the digital age.
