Why study with us?

  • Complete your degree in just over one year - achieve fast results, with minimal interruption to your professional and personal life. Each of the eight courses comprises 28 hours face-to-face contact time, and eight hours blended learning time (online), to enable you to complete your Executive MBA in one year of study.
  • Co-designed with industry - the program has been co-designed with industry, which will translate to immediate impact in the workplace.
  • Only Chartered Executive MBA in Australia - the only Executive MBA in Australia to embed the internationally recognised Chartered Manager designation. Accreditation is offered by the Chartered Management Institute (UK) through the IML association. Following review of assignments for each cohort graduates receive the equivalent of a second Masters’ Degree in Strategic Leadership.
  • Intensive ‘block’ study-mode - this mode of study will provide you with an immersive experience, which means there is less interruption to your busy working schedule and you can complete your degree in less time. You will complete the Executive MBA program by participating in classes on Fridays and Saturdays, scheduled throughout the year from February through to November, with breaks in between.
  • WiMBA Scholarships available - Newcastle Business School is proud to support aspirational and high-achieving females with the Women in MBA (WiMBA) scholarship. WiMBA scholarships are available to candidates of the Executive MBA.
  • Cohort-learning model - work with a group of like-minded candidates, building in-depth relationships that enable you to work together effectively and support each other throughout the program.
  • Action-based learning and engagement with industry experts - with the emphasis on real, work-related projects, and through the integration of leading academics and expert practitioners as visiting lecturers, there are dual opportunities to develop your skills, while providing value to your organisation.
  • Employer sponsorship - ideally, you will be sponsored by your employer at a minimum of 25% of the program cost (or equivalent in-kind). Please see the Guidelines for Participant Employers (Sponsors) for further information. It is expected that organisational sponsors will spend approximately four hours per course with Executive MBA participants to assist their development and completion of work integrated projects.
  • IML Accreditation - the Executive MBA is an Institute of Managers and Leaders (IML) pathway partnership, providing individual membership in the IML and Chartered Manager status on graduation.

What you will study

The Executive MBA will provide you with the fundamentals of executive strategy and business management with an action learning-based approach. It will build on your professional experience adding greater depth to classroom discussions by sharing work challenges and solutions, helping you to flourish in a collaborative learning environment.

The eight courses in the Executive MBA comprised of intensive workshops across 13 months, provide an immersive learning experience. Although the eight courses are considered to be full time, the Executive MBA can be completed while working. Assignments will involve work-integrated projects that are relevant to your current organisation, while supporting your learning in each of the eight courses:

Before you get started

To ensure that the process goes smoothly for you, you should complete the following steps before applying:

  1. Review the program that you wish to apply for. Note the admission criteria, admission instructions, requirements & structure and any additional information listed.
  2. Review the program fees and costs.
  3. Check whether your postgraduate program has a Semester or a Trimester closing date. Please view the application closing date.
  4. If you are from a non-English-speaking background, you need to satisfy the University's English language requirements and ensure that you can provide evidence of your English proficiency if required.

You will be considered for entry based on criteria such as your undergraduate studies and/or equivalent prior learning and/or relevant work experience.

Entry into the Executive Master of Business Administration will be available to applicants who have:

  • An undergraduate degree (AQF level 7 equivalent) or higher in any field of study plus a minimum of seven years relevant organisational experience, OR
  • A minimum ten years relevant organisational experience, including three years in a management position.

All potential participants will be required to attend an interview and submit an Admission Writing Task which will assist in establishing whether potential participants are committed to, and prepared for, this type of MBA program.

Please see the Interview and Writing Skills Rubric and Guidelines for Participant Employers (Sponsors) for further information. It is expected that organisational sponsors will spend approximately four hours per course with EMBA participants to assist their development and completion of work integrated projects.

The EMBA program is available to domestic participants only and intake will be by cohort with the intention that participants will be sponsored by their employer to attend. Sponsorship may take the form of funding and/or time off for study.
