If you're interested in delivering real-world impact through engineering but not sure which area is right for you, the Bachelor of Engineering (Flexible Entry) gives you time to explore your options before choosing a specialisation.

You’ll study a common first semester alongside other engineering students. During this time, you’ll build foundational skills in problem solving, science and mathematics while learning about different engineering disciplines and career pathways. Direct access to teaching staff means you’ll be supported as you decide which engineering specialisation is right for you.

Course overview

In your first semester, you’ll study a set of core engineering and science courses designed to build your foundational knowledge and prepare you for further study.

You’ll develop skills in engineering problem solving, science fundamentals and mathematics, while gaining an understanding of how different engineering disciplines approach real-world challenges. You’ll also take part in hands-on engineering projects where you can design, build and test ideas.

These core courses are shared across the suite of engineering programs, ensuring you build the knowledge and skills required to seamlessly transition into your chosen specialisation.

Career-ready placements

All University of Newcastle engineering students complete 12 weeks of industrial experience during their degree. This can be completed in one block or as shorter placements of no less than two weeks.

Through your work placement you’ll build important professional networks and put your learning into practice.
