Non-award study
If you want to study one or more subjects without advancing to an award – such as a degree or diploma – you can undertake non-award study.
You can apply for non-award admission as preliminary work for a higher degree, for professional requirements or because of an interest in the area.
A non-award course is a course of study that does not count towards an overall award, such as a degree or diploma.
You complete the course as any other student, attending lectures, tutorials, exams and assessments, and your results will be recorded on your University of Newcastle transcript.
Find out more Information on how to choose a single course and apply to undertake non-award study.
Credit for non-award study
While you may be undertaking non-award study with a view to completing a related or corresponding award at a later date, we cannot guarantee that credit for courses completed on a non-award basis will be granted towards a degree/diploma in the future.
Fees for non-award study
Fee-HELP and OS-HELP are not available for non-award study.
As a result, non-award students are required to pay full fees upfront to the University for each subject, based on whether you are a postgraduate, undergraduate or international student.
For more information please see fees for domestic students.
