Introducing this year's Alumni Awards Artist
Sean Thomas Bell
Blur Hill
Acrylic on Canvas
2022
Sean Thomas Bell is a designer and self-taught artist, who also paints large-scale murals. These murals can be seen within Newcastle, the Hunter Region, Sydney, and other parts of Australia.
With over 15 years of experience as a Graphic Designer, this is where he gets his bold graphical shapes and minimal colour palette which are influential within his art practice. Sean’s work has juxtaposed organic forms with geometric abstraction in some pieces. While others have a mixed blend of abstract flora-based shapes sitting next to shapes that have more of a man-made look to them, but give each other a well-balanced feeling to them, contrasting and complimenting each other at the same time.
Blur Hill was recreated from a sketch Sean did after a walk-through Newcastle’s Glenrock State Conservation Area back in 2019. The painting took shape in 2022, and Sean revisited it and completed it in late 2023.
We are proud to feature Sean as the 2024 Alumni Excellence Awards Artist.
