Science Show Logistics

Duration: SMART science shows are usually 50 minutes in duration. Length can be adjusted to suit school bell-times.

Our presenters require access to the show venue for a minimum of 1 hour prior to the start of the first show for set-up. After the final show, our presenters require continued access to the venue for pack-up, for up to 1 hour.

Show schedules are tailored to suit school bell times for full-day visits, and to enable re-set time between shows.

Example schedule for a full-day SMART visit:

  • 8am:         SMART team arrive for sign-in and set-up
  • 9.15am:    Science Show 1
  • 10.30am:  Science Show 2
  • 12pm:       Science Show 3
  • 1.30pm:    Science Show 4
  • 3.30pm:    SMART team sign-out and depart

Audience size: We recommend a maximum audience size of 120 students (3 - 4 classes) per show. Shows can be adjusted for small groups and small venues. Some shows can be delivered to larger audiences for whole school assemblies or community events.

Number of shows: Science shows can be booked as single sessions. Most schools choose to book multiple shows, and SMART can deliver up to 4 repeat shows during the school day.

Venue: A school hall, library or large classroom are usually suitable venues for SMART shows. Access to power in the show space is needed, as well as access to nearby facilities for water supply, equipment cleaning and hand-washing. Show spaces need to be well-ventilated (an open door or window) and comply with workplace heath and safety requirements.  Some SMART shows can be adapted to outdoor delivery, for example under a COLA.
