Research

The School of Health Sciences has undergone substantial development in the area of research in recent years, and continues to pursue a promising future. A large proportion of our staff are research active, and achieving some exceptional results. Our staff are also active with several of the University's Priority Research Centres.

Achievements

The School's Research and Research Training Committee is also encouraging research at the undergraduate level, awarding Summer Scholarships to students showing an interest in undertaking Honours programs.

There have also been increases in the number of publications and conference presentations, including international and invited conference presentations.

Other recent research achievements in the School include:

  • The publication of two systematic reviews (2007) which have led to two Best Practice Information Documents for Nurses, distributed internationally

  • 11th John M Kinney Award for General Nutrition for the best published manuscript in previous year - Clare Collins

  • Runner-Up, The University of Newcastle Faculty of Health 'Best of the Best' Research Showcase - Suzanne Snodgrass

  • Invited speaker: Darren Rivett presenting 'Vertebral artery insufficiency testing: Research, protocols and clinical implications' at the World Confederation for Physical Therapy 15th International Congress, Vancouver, Canada (2007).

  • Several WorkCover Assist grants awarded to Maya Guest and colleagues, totalling over $270 000 in 2007.
