Supporting our students – Adaptive Technology Centre refurbishment!

Thursday, 28 March 2024

The recent refurbishment of the Adaptive Technology Centre (Adtech) represents a significant step forward in supporting students with additional needs at our University. Situated within Auchmuty Library, the Adtech space serves as a specialised space for students registered with AccessAbility to study.

The refurbishment included soundproofing, the creation of new rooms within the existing space, and upgrades in carpets, paint, and electrical systems. The project was made possible through the Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF), supplemented by contributions from the Library and Infrastructure and Facilities Services to ensure the full scope of work could be delivered.

Central to the refurbishment is the recognition of the challenges faced by neurodivergent students. The revamped Adtech space offers an enhanced, low-sensory, quiet atmosphere, catering to individuals who may struggle with sensory overload or distractions and enabling them to fully engage with their studies.

Additionally, the Centre is equipped with state-of-the-art software and assistive technology, empowering students registered with AccessAbility to overcome barriers and excel academically. These tools cater to a diverse range of needs, ensuring that every student has access to the support they require.

By investing in the refurbishment of the Adaptive Technology Centre, the university reaffirms its commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. By focusing on the needs of all our students, we uphold the values of accessibility and ensure that all students have the opportunity to thrive.
